Canadian music creators are in for some relief, as SOCAN has announced the launch of a new livestream program, Encore!, which aims to pay artists for their Facebook and Instagram live performances.

Each quarter, the organization will allot $200,000 for artists who are able to perform 30-minute live sets for at least 100 viewers through social media platforms.

"Like so many Canadians, SOCAN member songwriters, composers, and music publishers are facing tough times, with the loss of revenue from touring and in-person concerts," Jennifer Brown, interim-CEO of SOCAN, said in a statement. "Many of our members have stepped up for fans, staging online concerts to bring the public together and keep their careers moving ahead, so it is only fair that they get paid for their generous work with our Encore! program."

Eligible artists will claim a total of $150 for each performance. The program is set to run through to March 7, 2021.

Encore! applications are open, and can be completed using SOCAN's Notification of Live Music Performance form. Artists must designate their venue as either Instagram or Facebook on the form to qualify.
