Last year, young Chicago quartet Smith Westerns dropped their self-titled debut album on Hozac Records to much excitement. Executing their tight, melodic garage pop with near perfection, the album brought them to new levels, including a high-profile tour with Girls. The hype has finally paid off, as the band have signed with Fat Possum.
The Mississippi-based imprint started off as a strictly blues rock label, but has spent the last few years harbouring current indie acts like Wavves, Digital Leather and, more recently, Band of Horses.
While the details are sparse, Fat Possum announced that Smith Westerns would be recording their sophomore album this summer, with plans for release sometime this year.
In April, the label issued a split seven-inch between the band and their friends Magic Kids. That single is available here.
