'Circe' (album stream)

Sigur Rós members bassist Georg "Goggi" Hólm and drummer Orri Páll Dýrason (along with band contributors Kjartan Holm and Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson) recently announced that they had teamed up to soundtrack the documentary The Show of Shows. Now, their album Circe is available to stream.

The Show of Shows is a BBC doc utilizing a century's worth of footage of vaudeville, circuses and carnivals. The soundtrack doesn't overtly allude to circuses — there are no weirdo, whirly organs or wacky carnival ditties. Instead, it contrasts the over-the-top tone of a circus with solemn soundscapes that are heavy on atmospheric ambience and droning dreaminess. In other words, it sounds fairly consistent with Sigur Rós' signature sound, minus Jónsi's vocals.

The Show of Shows won't air on the BBC until next year, although it has already had some UK screenings.
