The Shins' James Mercer and Danger Mouse Team Up for Joint Project

BY Alex HudsonPublished Sep 29, 2009

When it comes to high-profile collaborations, Danger Mouse is becoming the man of choice for indie rock musicians looking to branch out. He's already produced albums by Beck and the Black Keys, and his collaboration with Sparklehorse, Dark Night of the Soul, featured contributions from the Flaming Lips, Black Francis and Julian Casablancas, among many others.

Danger Mouse's latest project is with Shins front-man James Mercer - another one of the many vocalists who appeared on Dark Night of the Soul. The two musicians are currently going by the name Broken Bells, although that may change by the time they release their debut album early next year.

Unlike previous Danger Mouse collaborations, this is a real band, not just a one-off. According to a Pitchfork report, he and Mercer are already making future plans beyond that as-yet-untitled first album.
