The Shins are back with a new album, and now we've got our first taste of Port of Morrow, as the band have just unveiled the lead single "Simple Song."
With its bombastic guitar riffage and synth textures, this track sounds like a mix between the Shins' usual lyrical folk pop and glammed-out '80s arena rock. Clearly Mercer isn't going back to the low-key psychedelia of Oh, Inverted World anytime soon.
In other news, Pitchfork notes that Port of Morrow will be available on reel-to-reel tape, which sounds profoundly impractical but pretty cool. It's out on March 20 via Columbia/Aural Apothecary. Pre-order your copy starting tomorrow (January 10) right here.
