Said the Whale Head to 'hawaiii' on New Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jul 17, 2013

No, that title isn't a typo. That's really how to spell the name of Said the Whale's all-lower-case, three-"i"-featuring new LP hawaiii, which is out on September 17.

The album was co-produced by the band's own Tyler Bancroft along with returning collaborator Tom Dobrzanski (We Are the City, the Zolas), with sessions spread out throughout a six-month period. It was mixed by Gus Van Go and Werner F (Rah Rah, the Stills).

According to a press release, the album features the "sun-filled, hook-heavy vocal harmonies Said the Whale are known so well for," in addition to "darker, serious subject matter and self-reflection." The song "Resolutions," meanwhile, is said to boast "dreamy new sounds."

The 12-song tracklist is below. As you'll notice, it includes includes two cuts from the recent I Love You EP — "Mother" and "I Love You" — although "Barbara-Ann" appears to have been left off. What's more, the final track, "The Weight of the Season," is an old cut from the band's 2009 instalment of their West Coast Christmas series.

A video for "I Love You" is apparently in the works. See the band's upcoming tour schedule below, which includes a couple of Canadian festival gigs, plus a slew of U.S. shows.
