Said the Whale

'Little Mountain' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Feb 27, 2012

Fans of Vancouver's Said the Whale have no doubt been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the band's latest full-length album Little Mountain. After releasing their New Brighton EP back in the fall, followed by videos for album cuts like "Big Sky, MT" and "We Are 1980," there's no doubt that anticipation is high for this record.

Little Mountain sees the band exploring previously untouched rock sounds, while maintaining their knack for catchy pop hooks. According to a press release, the new album "is a multi-stylistic tour-de-force that ventures into everything from soaring, horn-laden cabaret ('The Reason') to jaggedly syncopated rock ('We Are 1980') and effervescent guitar pop ('Loveless')."

With a 2011 Juno for New Group of the Year under their belt and an extensive North American tour planned, Said the Whale are going to be near-impossible to ignore this year. Check out the group performing "Lover/Friend" and "Lucky" on Exclaim! TV if you haven't already, and give the new album a listen below.

Little Mountain is out on March 6 through Hidden Pony.
