Here's a charitable cause that just about everyone can agree on: helping out a hurt kitten. The folks over at the Fullerton, CA-based Burger Records recently rescued an injured stray cat and took her to a hospital. Now, to pay for the kitten's expensive medical bills, the label has assembled a double-cassette benefit album called The Kitty Comp.
Among the artists who contributed unreleased material to the collection are Ryan Adams (with an awesomely titled number called "Dynasty of Troll Loch Ming"), Ben Cook's Young Guv, Crystal Antlers, Sea Lions, Brentwood Dan (with members of Beachwood Sparks), Dead Ghosts, the Cleaners from Venus, Devon Williams and the Coathangers. In addition to these these acts, there are also lots of lesser-knowns (adding up to 50 songs in total), so you just might discover something new in the process.
The label explained, "We found a kitten running under cars on the freeway during rush hour and we rescued her!!! The next day we took the kitty to the vet and found out she had fallen or been thrown and she needed surgery and pins in her pelvis and knee!!! It was super expensive so we asked some of our friends to contribute unreleased songs to benefit the little kitty gato and 50 bands came to the rescue!!! She is the sweetest little kitten ever, there's no way we could have let her die so we did THE KITTY COMP!!! "
You can buy one of the 500 copies of the cassette compilation here for $10. The label is hoping to raise $2,200 to pay for the cat. Any additional money raised will go to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
