Toronto, ON's self-proclaimed "art-rock pop" musicians the Ruby Spirit have released a video for "Caligari," from 2010's Born Under a Veil LP.
The video, helmed by artist/director Mike Walter, is described as a "double stop-motion" work, consisting of one layer of claymation (filmed entirely in stop-motion) and an additional layer of real-life stills of the band interposed on top. The pastiche of stuttering frames makes for an interesting visual experience that's reminiscent of pre-high-speed-internet days when computers struggled to play videos smoothly.
There is something very Tim Burton-ish about the video as well, albeit it's much more colourful and optimistic than much of the aforementioned film director's work.
Check out the video for yourself below.
If you're in Toronto, the Ruby Spirit play the Horseshoe Tavern this Saturday (October 8).
