After claiming that he and his uncle were in an abusive romantic and sexual relationship for seven months, Ricky Martin's nephew withdrew harassment claims against the singer in court on Thursday morning.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that a judge had granted a domestic violence-related protection order against Martin. The Latin pop singer has vehemently denied the allegations brought forward by his 21-year-old nephew, including claims of incest — which could have landed him five decades in prison in Puerto Rico.
"Just as we had anticipated, the temporary protection order was not extended by the Court," a statement by Martin's lawyer reads, according to Variety. "The accuser confirmed to the court that his decision to dismiss the matter was his alone, without any outside influence or pressure, and the accuser confirmed he was satisfied with his legal representation in the matter. The request came from the accuser asking to dismiss the case. This was never anything more than a troubled individual making false allegations with absolutely nothing to substantiate them. We are glad that our client saw justice done and can now move forward with his life and his career."
Martin's nephew had alleged that their months-long affair ended after incidents of stalking and harassment. Martin's legal team maintains that his nephew suffers from mental health issues.
