While guitarist Matt Mondanile goes about promoting his latest Ducktails album, his Real Estate bandmate, bassist Alex Bleeker, will be releasing an album of his own with his backing band the Freaks. How Far Away is due out May 28 through Woodsist.
This is Alex Bleeker & the Freaks' sophomore album. The so-called Freaks who contributed to the album include Mountain Man's Amelia Meath, Woods' Jarvis Tanviere and Real Estate's Jackson Pollis, along with others.
According to a press release, the album's 11 songs find Bleeker dealing "with the autumnal phase of lost love, the point after the grieving subsides and you start figuring out what you're supposed to do next." These tracks reportedly blend the relaxed dynamics of the Grateful Dead with a more concise pop style, and the whole thing functions as "a narrative about the dissolution of a relationship."
The jangly folk opener "Don't Look Down" is streaming at the bottom of this page.
