Eighties-era Paisley Underground troupe Rain Parade will reunite for a show early next year, marking the first time the L.A. outfit have played together in over two decades.
As Slicing Up Eyeballs points out, the band will get back together for a January 19 concert at Atlanta, GA's the Earl, where a benefit concert will take place for Bobby Sutliff, of Mississippi janglers the Windbreakers, who suffered a serious injury in a car accident earlier this year. And apparently, this show won't be the only upcoming onstage outing from Rain Parade, whose reunion lineup at this point is unclear.
A Facebook message from Rain Parade singer-guitarist Matt Piucci noted that the band "needs a great drummer." Apparently there's "not a ton of gigs planned," but Piucci said that the planned shows, which will take place on both sides of the pond, are "cool ones."
While Rain Parade have previously turned down calls for a reunion in the past, Piucci noted that Sutliff's situation influenced the decision. "Our friend as badly hurt. We were asked to help. Here we come," he said.
Sutliff's June 15 accident in Powell, OH, landed him in the intensive care unit at a hospital for over a month. Apparently, he is on the road to recovery following two more months of physical therapy.
Apart form the charity concert, which will find proceeds going towards Sutliff's living expenses, a tribute album is also in the works. Piucci has contributed material to the set, as have Long Ryders' Tom Stevens, Don Dixon and Will Kimbrough. Matthew Sweet and the dB's are also expected to offer up material for the project, which has no scheduled street thus far.
