Radical Face songwriter Ben Cooper is working on a trilogy of albums called Family Tree. Following 2011's Family Tree: The Roots, he's back with Family Tree: The Branches, which is out on October 22 through Nettwerk Records. Before that, it's available to stream in full on Exclaim.ca.
The bulk of the material is folksy and acoustic, with quiet balladic intros frequently swelling to low-key crescendos of drums and wordless falsetto "ooh"-ing. "Summer Skeletons" adds a dose of rustic fiddle and clapping, while "Southern Snow" begins as one of the album's quietest numbers and swells to one of the the grandest cinematic climaxes.
