Phil Haggerty, known best as the guitarist for Massachusetts outfit Somos, has died. The band confirmed Haggerty's passing on social media this past weekend (August 10). A cause of death has not been revealed.
"We lost our dearest friend and guitarist Phil Haggerty earlier today," the band wrote in sharing the news. "He was an immensely caring friend and an all around beautiful person, and he is gone far too soon. Phil Haggerty forever."
Somos' record label Tiny Engines wrote, "Phil was a wonderful musician and a kind, caring person. Our condolences and love to Phil's family and friends."
The band's former label home, Hopeless Records, wrote, "Incredibly sad to hear that Phil Haggerty of Somos has passed away. The spirit, kindness and art he offered the world will be truly missed."
Today, Somos shared new album Prison on a Hill early, making the 12-track release available for purchase for one week only ahead of a wider release on October 11. All proceeds will go to Haggerty's family to cover funeral expenses.
"The record will go back up on all platforms with the official release in the next few months. For now, please consider picking it up to support Phil's family in a time of need," the band explained. "Phil poured countless hours into this record and was so proud of what we made together. I wish so badly he could be here today to share this moment."
