Highly influential British post-punk act the Pop Group, who first existed from 1978 to 1980 before reuniting in 2010, have announced plans to revisit some early material via a reissue and a rarities compilation.
We Are Time, a collection of early recordings and demos, was initially released in 1980. The album will receive a proper reissue, and the band will also play it live in full throughout the UK.
"The Pop Group was mutating so fast right from the start that it was crucial to document those first experiments with this compilation," the band's Mark Stewart said in a press release. "We Are Time is really 'the' teenage Pop Group album. It's full of defiance and the material demonstrates the band's staunch independence and our really early DIY ethic before the studio became another instrument."
In addition to the We Are Time reissue, the Pop Group have also prepared Cabinet of Curiosities, a new rarities compilation. That includes some Peel sessions and a version of their song "She is Beyond Good and Evil" that was produced by Andy Mackay of Roxy Music.
Both albums will arrive on October 21 through Freaks R Us, an offshoot of Kartel and Amped).
