This past holiday season saw the release of a Christmas album from the Polyphonic Spree, and now the 22-member Texan choral rock outfit have announced plans for new, non-seasonal album. Yes, It's True is due out on May 28.
Coming via Good Records, the album was produced by the Speekers (the Polyphonic Spree's own Tim DeLaughter and Julie Doyle), along with returning studio collaborator Eric Drew Feldman (Frank Black, OK Go). Mixing was handled by Tim Palmer (Pearl Jam, U2, the Cure).
The 11-song album was recorded in a series of different sessions, and includes tracks written in the studio and others written years prior. Influences include Burt Bacharach, Talk Talk and orchestral pop, and the results apparently emphasize drum machines.
In a statement, DeLaughter commented, "This record feels like a collection of 'songs' rather than a long listening piece which we've done previously in the Spree stylistically. It's kind of refreshing."
Listen to the energetically pop-rocking single "You Don't Know Me" over at SXSW's website.
The Polyphonic Spree plan to tour in 2013 and will perform at select festivals.
