Having already dominated our eardrums this year as the vocalist on Daft Punk's indomitable anthem "Get Lucky," Pharrell Williams is hoping he has another big hit this summer with new tune "Happy." The soul-slathered throwback appears in the animated flick Despicable Me 2, and you can hear it now ahead of the soundtrack's June 18 due date.
Opting out of futuristic funk, Williams' latest joint wraps lines about discovering happiness around "Green Onions"-styled '60s organ sounds and full-bodied vocal harmonies. The track is apparently one of many Williams helped put together for the soundtrack, which follows his work on the original Despicable Me in 2010. Aside from Williams' original songs, Heitor Pereira provided the film score.
The animated film, meanwhile, hits screens July 3.
