On the surface, it's easy to see the similarities between Canadian synth sensation Claire Boucher (a.k.a. Grimes) and Toronto-based recording artist Alexandra Mackenzie (a.k.a. Petra Glynt). However, simply comparing the two would be a disservice to Mackenzie, whose raw take on avant-garde electronica and stunning live shows (she's an accomplished visual artist on the side) are distinctly her own. See for yourself by watching the up-and-coming performer play "Out to Lunch," which Exclaim! TV happened to catch on tape at this year's Wavelength Music Festival.
Recorded at Toronto's historic Polish Combatants Hall on February 15, watch as Mackenzie sways side-to-side to her heavily delayed beats and atmospheric rhythms, which are all the more enhanced by projectionist Steve Reaume's psychedelic slideshows.
See the clip now in the player below, and don't forget to check out Mackenzie's upcoming art exhibition Promised Land at this year's Kazoo! Fest in Guelph, Ontario.
