Way back in 1995, synth pop propagators Pet Shop Boys released the stellar B-sides collection Alternative. Unsurprisingly, the band have accumulated a wealth of odds 'n' sods since then, and they are now clearing out the archives with the double-disc compilation Format.
This album features non-LP cuts that span the years 1996 to 2009, and it will include liner notes written by music journalist Jon Savage. The compilation will arrive in the UK on February 6 via Parlophone.
There's no official word as to the North American release plans, but it's likely that it will arrive the next day on February 7.
In addition to revisiting the past, Pet Shop Boys are plotting their next LP. In a recent post on the band's official website, Neil Tennant wrote, "We've been in the studio for the last few weeks continuing to write songs for our next album. So far this year we've written 16 new songs. I think we'll start recording the album in November for release next year."
