When Pavement announced that they would be reforming for a massive world tour, no one was too surprised that this reunion didn't include original drummer Gary Young. After all, Young was an infamously poor drummer, and his erratic behaviour included drug and alcohol abuse and allegedly threatening Stephen Malkmus with a gun. But the band have apparently put aside their differences with Young, as the former drummer will be appearing with Pavement for the June 24 show at the Bob Hope Theatre in Stockton, CA.
According to Matador's blog, "Original Pavement drummer Gary Young will be behind the kit, accompanying SM, Spiral, Mark Ibold, Steve West and Bob Nastanovich."
This is presumably just a one-off, since Stockton is Pavement's hometown and Young still lives there. But who knows, maybe if the gig goes well, Young will be invited back. Let's just hope he doesn't bring the gun with him like in the old days.
There's still over three months left in Pavements world tour, including Canadian dates in Toronto and Vancouver. Check here to see the dates.
