Paul McCartney Unveils Expanded Reissues of McCartney and McCartney II

BY Alex HudsonPublished Apr 27, 2011

Last year, Paul McCartney unveiled an expanded version of his classic Wings album Band on the Run with the promise that more reissues would follow. Sure enough, the Beatles legend is continuing to delve into his back catalogue by reissuing his solo albums McCartney and McCartney II. The expanded sets will arrive on June 14 via MPL and Concord Music Group.

According to a press release, "Paul McCartney personally supervised all aspects of these two reissues," with the albums being remastered at Abbey Road by the same team responsible for the recent Beatles remasters.

McCartney was originally released in 1970, and the home-recorded collection was made as the Fab Four were dissolving. The first of Sir Paul's many solo albums, it features the songwriter playing all of the instruments himself, and contains the classic song "Maybe I'm Amazed" and the Beatles leftover "Junk." The reissue will be available as a two-CD "special edition," featuring the remastered album with seven bonus tracks. This includes unreleased outtakes and a live recording of "Maybe I'm Amazed." For McCartney diehards, there will also be a "deluxe edition" with two CDs. plus a DVD and a 128-page hardcover book.

The sequel McCartney II was originally released in 1980, a decade after its predecessor. The experimental, synth-heavy album was created as Wings broke up. The reissue will again be available in a two-CD special edition with the remastered album and eight bonus tracks. These extra tracks consist of B-sides, alternate takes and live tracks. As for the deluxe edition, it will be made up of three CDs, a DVD and a 128-page hardcover book.

Both the albums and bonus tracks will also be released as double-vinyl sets (with MP3 download) and digitally.

We can expect more McCartney reissues to be announced in the coming months and years. See the deluxe edition tracklists below.
