After 17 years of slinging records and CDs in the capital, Ottawa's Compact Music is set to close its downtown location.
Co-owners Ian and James Boyd will close their location at 206 Bank St. to make way for a new Hobo Cannabis dispensary location, the Ottawa Citizen reports.
The brothers, who were planning to downsize their two-store business, informed the landlord they would not renew their lease this past December.
"We would have much preferred to stay to June to have a longer window to sell all our inventory," Ian Boyd told the paper. "We were even thinking that we might want to renew. Business is up at both stores, and it's all because of vinyl."
Compact Music's primary location, located at 785 Bank St. in the city's Glebe neighbourhood, will remain open.
Earlier this month, long-running Hamilton record store Cheapies announced plans to close, while the city of Montreal moved to allow its record dealers to stay open later.
