Ohbijou Sign to Bella Union, Cancel Canadian Spring Tour

Indie rock septet Ohbijou have shared some good news, as well as some bad.

First, the good. The Toronto, ON band have announced they've inked a new deal with London-based label Bella Union, the UK home to acts such as fellow Canucks the Acorn, Fleet Foxes and Andrew Bird. What's more, Ohbijou have finally given their upcoming sophomore effort Beacons a firm release date: June 8.

Now, as for the bad, that due date is only for Europe and plans to release the record in Canada this April have been scrapped. Also, Ohbijou have called off their spring tour, with hopes of rescheduling it once they sort out the details of Beacons Canadian release.

Via their website, Ohbijou posted this message to shed some light on the band's recent change of plans:

Right now, there are some really great opportunities and changes that have come our way. Unfortunately, in order to make some of those changes and take those opportunities, we have had to make some tough decisions. As a result, we have reluctantly had to postpone the release of our upcoming album Beacons in Canada and the tour out west that we have scheduled for April and May. We're really sorry about having to delay things, as we are very excited to release Beacons! Very excited! But, in order to move ahead with things that are going to be really amazing for us in the long run, we have to put a hold on things.

So, thank you for being patient with us, and we are sorry if this causes you any inconvenience. We appreciate all of your support, and can't wait for the release and all of the wonderful things that are to come! We'll definitely keep you posted on things as they unfold, and with the new release schedule as it is determined! Thanks!

Ohbijou still plan to make their SXSW debut in Austin this year, with three performances scheduled for the fest. And perhaps in efforts to quell any disappointment about the delayed tour and album, the band have posted the new Beacons track "Black Ice" on their website. You can download it free of charge here

Here is what Ohbijou's SXSW schedule looks like so far:

3/19 Austin, TX - The Ranch (Bella Union Showcase, 11 p.m.)
3/20 Austin, TX - Radio Room (Canvas Media/The Onion AV Club Party, 12 p.m.)
3/21 Austin, TX - Canadian Blast House (Exlcaim.ca presents M4MTL vs. T4TO Party, 12:30 p.m.)
