Nisa Announces Debut Album 'Shapeshifting,' Shares New Single "Smokescreen"

The Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter's anticipated debut arrives in April

Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Nisa Lumaj — better known mononymously as Nisa — has announced her debut album, previewed by new single "Smokescreen."

Produced, mixed and co-engineered by Ronnie DiSimone (a.k.a. Torna), Shapeshifting takes form April 26 via Tender Loving Empire Records. It features previously released alt-pop gems "Currents," "Vertigo" and "Sea Glass."

New single "Smokescreen" finds pockets of surprise in crunchy, emo-leaning guitar riffs, and Nisa's signature off-kilter electropop flourishes.

"I wrote ‘Smokescreen’ about the dance between seeking closure while being unable to fully let go," the artist explained in a statement. "I was stuck in a loop of repetitive behaviour and somehow also expecting to feel different, and after a while, it started to weigh on me. In order to make a change, I had to admit that I was prone to harmful patterns, and this song is about that self-realization."
