It seems Nick Cave has finally reached the age where its time to reissue, repackage and remaster. In conjunction with Mute, the hirsute Aussie and his Bad Seeds have announced they will be embarking on a lengthy reissuing campaign, re-releasing their entire back catalog as expanded, digitally remastered, 5.1 surround sound discs.
Each reissue will come as a fancy two-disc set, boasting both a remastered stereo mix and the new surround sound mix, as well as all the b-sides for the related singles and new sleeve notes. Each will also come sporting an exclusive short film created by UK artists Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, who Cave personally requested to join the project.
So far, the first four Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds albums From Her to Eternity, The First Born Is Dead, Kicking Against the Pricks and Your Funeral and My Trial are slated for a release sometime before the end of 2008.
In other Cave news, the next single from Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!, "Midnight Man, is due out July 28. Heres Cave's take on the track:
It takes various points of view and it's got an unreliable narrator speaking in it and it time travels. It's basically a guy looking at his woman and half of the time he's the protector and at other times he's the villain and she betrays him and doesn't betray and he's jealous and not jealous. It's very lean and there's a nice sense of threat within the song.
