Once again, it's getting to that time of year when those looking to expand their musical horizons can look forward to Next Music from TOKYO, the annual travelling package tour showcasing some of the finest bands Japan has to offer. Organizers this week announced the band's on deck to hit up Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, and the lineup is looking more promising than ever.

Leading the way in Next Music from TOKYO Vol. 6 are returning favourites Kinoko Teikoku, who treated last year's instalment to their graceful brand of pop-geared shoegaze. Also playing are spazzy math rock unit Happy!Mari, melodic fretboard shredders Uchu Conbini and jazz-minded post-rock unit Jizue. As an added treat, Osaka's Nayuta will play Montreal and Toronto, while SSRI's offshoot Sprïng will play the Vancouver show.

The dates for this year's event are Toronto on May 16 and 17, Montreal on May 19, and Vancouver on May 21. Tickets can already be bought online here.

To refresh your memories on the tour, the organizers explain, "Next Music from TOKYO is a non-profit, one-of-a-kind tour transporting the audience on a virtual trip to a gig in Tokyo's underground live house scene. Choosing the line up of bands each tour is a painstaking process that strives to showcase a wide mix of musical styles while emphasizing the highest quality of music and performance on-stage. The goal is to curate the best concert the audience has ever seen by featuring Japanese bands that play with a degree of skill, creativity, energy and passion that is rarely seen in Canada."
