Aside from an archival collection of early recordings and a digital EP, Ontario outfit the Most Serene Republic haven't released a proper album since 2009's …And the Ever Expanding Universe. That's finally about to change, since Mediac is due out on November 13 through MapleMusic Recordings.
The album was produced by the band's own keyboard player Ryan Lenssen and mixed by Dave Newfeld (Broken Social Scene, Holy Fuck, Super Furry Animals). A press release explains, "These six best of friends returned to making music through a very different lens, yet somehow managing to still capture all the impossibly beautiful things and the essence of what made their universe so special."
Below, listen to the single "Ontario Morning" [via Stereogum]. It's a buoyant pop-rock song that's blasted with ascendent horns and bright hooks, which are tinged with a hint of bittersweet melancholy.
The Most Serene Republic will perform a Toronto gig next Thursday (August 13) at the Dakota Tavern.
