Mary Timony's Ex Hex Signs to Merge for Debut Album

Earlier this fall, Wild Flag/Helium vet Mary Timony started gigging with her new band Ex Hex, and now it's been revealed that the Washington, DC-based trio's studio debut will arrive in 2014 through Merge Records.

Details are slim, but the label confirmed that an LP is on the way from the act, which comprises Timony, the Fire Tapes' Betsy Wright and the Aquarium drummer Laura Harris. The outfit took their name from Timony's 2005 solo LP Ex Hex.

The self-described "power trio" had put a song called "Hot & Cold" up for sale last month on Bandcamp, but the group have since removed the track. You can, however, give the rock song a stream on NPR.

Citing glammy influences like Sweeney Todd and Roxy Music, Timony described in a statement that "Ex Hex is what your older brother's friends listened to. 'Roxy Roller' and 'Virginia Plain' rumbling from the Kenwood in the basement. It's what your babysitters listened to, and it's what stuck with me."
