Mark Kozelek's jam-packed future already includes the release of a spoken word LP and a collaborative album between his Sun Kil Moon project and Jesu. You can now add a solo EP to the round of upcoming releases, with Kozelek's Down in the Willow Garden due to drop October 7 through his Caldo Verde Records.
The newly announced EP contains four tracks and, best of all, will come free with the purchase of any Caldo Verde release come October 7. Though unconfirmed, it's presumed that the title track, which appears in two different versions, is modeled after a traditional Appalachian murder ballad. The song has been covered countless times over the years by artists including the Everly Brothers, Billie Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones, Bon Iver and the Chieftains, Art Garfunkel, and more.
You'll find the full tracklisting details down below.
This is not the first time Kozelek has given fans a free release when ordering from Caldo Verde. CD copies of The Kids - Live In London, for instance, were bundled with various releases. The listing for Down in the Willow Garden, however, says that the The Kids goes out of print on October 7.
As previously reported, Kozelek's Dreams of Childhood - A Spoken Word Album arrives October 27, also through Caldo Verde. The collection finds the solo artist reading English translations of poems written by "street kids in Argentina." Proceeds will go to La Casa de la Cultura de la Calle, a non-profit organization that provides art classes to underprivileged kids.
As for Sun Kil Moon's collaborative work with Jesu, the accurately titled Jesu/Sun Kil Moon touches down February 16 through, you guessed it, Caldo Verde Records. You can find out more info about the nine-song collection over here.
Down in the Willow Garden:
1. Down In The Willow Garden (Version 1)
2. Sick Again
3. Chapter 8 Of John Connolly's "A Song of Shadows"
4. Down In The Willow Garden (Version 2)
