Marissa Johnson

"Lonesome Town" (Ricky Nelson cover)

Courtenay, BC-based songwriter Marissa Johnson's musical resume includes stints with rootsy outfit Weathered Pines, and in power-pop projects likes Dizzy Eyes and the Flintettes. She's now ready to go it alone, having just wrapped recording sessions on a solo LP. Before that arrives, she's giving listeners a forlorn take on Ricky Nelson's classic "Lonesome Town."

The cover is caked in tasteful, Twin Reverb guitar slinging, with Johnson's emotional vibrato likewise being supported by a gentle wash of "ooohs." It's a timid but tender rendition of Ricky's broken-hearted tune, and possibly an idea at what to expect from Johnson's as-yet untitled LP.

Details on the LP have yet to arrive, but Johnson tracked the set at Gabriola Island's Noise Floor facility with producer Jordan Koop (NEEDS, Peace, the Courtneys).
