Chicago-based math rock quartet Maps & Atlases have been going strong for six years, touring extensively and marking the release of two albums. Most recently, the band put out their excellent 2008 effort You and Me and the Mountain on Sargent House. Now, they've signed with Barsuk and are preparing their third album for mass consumption.
The 12-track record is called Perch Patchwork and will be released this summer on June 29. According to a label announcement, the album features "pop songs with a magnificent aptitude for texture and a distinctive blend of both the intricate and organic" and "melds the technicality of progressive music and the idiosyncrasies of art rock into a fascinating and oddly accessible sound."
Prior to the album's release, the band are out on a lengthy North American tour that includes Canadian stops in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. Also, album track "Solid Ground" is now available on to download here.
