Superchunk had celebrated Halloween in the past with punky covers of devilocked icons the Misfits, but the group's Mac McCaughan is getting gloomy this year with an acoustic cover of UK crew Sisters of Mercy's "First and Last and Always."
McCaughan's endearingly elfin voice rolls a little lower than we normally hear, though he still doesn't reach the pitch-black tones of Sisters' Andrew Eldritch. The song is stripped down to a moody strum of guitar and a ghoulish glaze of synthesizer. Since it's beatless, we're assuming McCaughan couldn't get inanimate Mercy drum machine Doktor Avalanche to agree to a collabo.
