Die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain, etc., etc.

Even as it seems to draw the final breaths from its thin monkey lips, the world of cryptocurrency and NFTs is still managing to pull people into its environmentally damaging, aesthetically bereft void.

Those people now officially include LCD Soundsystem, who made the decision to perform at NYC's ApeFest — a hot, sexy and exclusive festival for those who own Bored Ape Yacht Club or Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFTs.

ApeFest 2022 (something with a name that funny has no right being so lame) kicked off on Monday (June 20) with a full set from the band, who reportedly played "Daft Punk Is Playing at My House," "Tribulations," "Dance Yrself Clean," "All My Friends," "I Can Change," a cover of Joy Division's "No Love Lost" and several more. Notice how bands never seem to promote these kinds of shows? Weird.

James Murphy and co. are only the latest indie rock titans to get involved in the world of digital dollars and monkey cartoons, with Arcade Fire making their "post-pandemic" live return at a Las Vegas crypto gala in 2021. Mother Mother also got some heat last year for selling exclusive promotional NFTs. They eventually removed them and donated the proceeds to an environmental charity

Amy Schumer and Questlove performed ApeFest sets too, so maybe inflation is also hurting the celebs. See some footage of LCD Soundsystem's set below.
