It's Thursday, and as per our weekly custom, we've rounded up the best shows hitting Canada in our Can't Miss Concerts feature for the week of May 29 to June 4. Of course, this isn't a comprehensive list of Canada's events, so check our complete Concert Listings to keep abreast of the best events coming to your town.
Atmosphere
Atmosphere's second time on our Can't Miss Concerts roundup in three weeks is indicative of one thing: they're worth checking out. It might also have something to do with the fact that the Minneapolis rap duo are in the midst of the Canadian "North of Hell" tour, which hits over half of the country's provinces. Attendees can likely expect a performance of new tune "Kanye West" along with other choice cuts from Southsiders.
05/29 London, ON – London Music Hall
05/30 Toronto, ON – Phoenix Concert Theatre
05/31 Montreal, QC – SAT
06/01 Ottawa, ON – Ritual Nightclub
06/04 Halifax, NS – The Marquee Ballroom
Head of the Herd
With a recent CMW Canadian Radio Music Award for best new rock band adorning Head of the Herd's collective heads, and the attention that will bring them, the Vancouver bluesy rock band hit the road again. This could be your last chance to see them "before they were big," if only barely.
05/29 Edmonton, AB – The Starlite Room
05/30 Grand Prairie, AB - Better Than Fred's
05/31 Calgary, AB – Republik Nightclub
La Roux
La Roux's public inactivity lasted from 2011 to 2013, during which time the duo were preparing their follow-up to their self-titled debut. This tour marks their first time in Canada in four years.
06/01 Toronto, ON – Danforth Music Hall
06/02 Montreal, QC - Théâtre Corona Virgin Mobile
Moka Only
One-time Swollen Member Moka Only named his latest album SexMoneyMoka, suggesting something about his own swollen member with the title's first word. Of course, that leaves money and Moka, which work wonderfully together as you can pay the former to see the latter before the prolific artist returns to the studio to write and record more tunes.
05/30 Guelph, ON – Biggies
05/31 Toronto, ON – Nocturne Nightclub
06/01 Hamilton, ON – Club Absinthe
06/02 London, ON – The Soundbar
06/03 Barrie, ON – Foxx Lounge
Yann Tiersen
Fans of artsy French film Amélie might recognize some of the compositions performed by Yann Tiersen, as many of them were culled from his older albums. However, they may also find some less familiar songs, as the multi-instrumentalist is touring in support of his recently released album, ∞ (Infinity).
06/03 Montreal, QC – Club Soda
06/04 Toronto, ON – The Opera House
Suoni Per il Popolo
Suoni Per il Popolo translates to "Sounds for the People" from it's surprisingly-chosen Italian origin (considering the fest occurs in Montreal). Fortunately, the two-and-a-half week "liberation festival" really does have sounds (and workshops and films) for most any person, with Low, Fuck Buttons, the Notwist, Omar Souleyman and many more performing as part of the promised 50+ events.
06/04-22 Montreal, QC – Multiple venues
Tupelo Honey
Sharing a name with a Van Morrison album as Tupelo Honey do really gives no indication to the Alberta rock band's sound. Their catchy tunes are more akin to beloved mainstream group Daughtry than the Belfast Cowboy, so it'd be wise to catch what is essentially a hometown show for the band before they're swept away by fame.
05/30 Edmonton, AB – The Starlite Room
Chad VanGaalen
Chad Vangaalen is the second performer on this list pulling a repeat appearance. This week finds him returning to his home province of Alberta for the Calgarian musician.
06/04 Edmonton, AB – The Starlite Room
