Nirvana fans have been looking forward to Montage of Heck, an official documentary about Kurt Cobain that will air on HBO on May 4. Before that, we'll be able to get another glimpse into the singer's life thanks to a companion book, which will come out on April 7 through Insight Editions.
The book is also simply called Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck. Rolling Stone reports that it will include "a mixture of animation stills, rare photography and other treasures from Kurt Cobain's personal archive."
There are also transcripts from interviews in the film, along with some personal thoughts from director Brett Morgen about the project.
The film Montage of Heck comes sanctioned by Cobain's family. His widow Courtney Love was partly responsible for getting it off the ground, but her editorial control was ultimately withdrawn because she is a subject of the documentary. Her daughter with Kurt, Frances Bean Cobain, is an executive producer.
The documentary will premiere this month at the Sundance Film Festival, ahead of its HBO screening.
