Next Monday (August 6) would have been Elliott Smith's 43rd birthday, and former label Kill Rock Stars will be celebrating the late songsmith's illustrious career through a series of reissues, sales and song premieres.
Most excitingly for longtime devotees, the imprint will apparently be uploading a handful of previously unreleased material throughout the month via their "Unreleased Track of the Week" campaign. First up is an alternate version of "Alameda." The newly uncovered take was recorded in the same session as the version that popped up on Smith's 1997 LP Either/Or, and features some different lyrics during the chorus. You can stream it down below and purchase it over here.
Physical media hounds will also be able to pick up newly pressed versions of Either/Or and Smith's self-titled set from 1995. Both platters will be pressed on 180-gram vinyl and will ship sometime this month.
The label is also offering up an unreleased track if you sign up for their mailing list.
