Justin Vernon Hints at Bon Iver Hiatus

In the wake of Bon Iver's insanely successful sophomore LP, band leader Justin Vernon has taken on a diverse array of projects that include producing albums, collaborating with rappers, prepping a workout DVDs and reissuing other artists for his Chigliak label. With so many different things on his plate, Vernon has now hinted that Bon Iver may be finished, at least for the time being.

When asked about his plans for Bon Iver during an interview with Minnesota radio station 89.3 The Current [via The Daily Swarm], Vernon said that he was "winding it down. I look at it like a faucet. I have to turn it off and walk away from it because so much of how that music comes together is subconscious or discovering. There's so much attention on the band, it can be distracting at times. I really feel the need to walk away from it while I still care about it. And then if I come back to it — if at all — I'll feel better about it and be renewed or something to do that."

It's understandable that Vernon is feeling distracted by all of the attention that Bon Iver has received; after all, he won a Grammy Award earlier this year, even if some viewers didn't know what his name was.

The songwriter told 89.3 The Current that his side-projects help him to "clear the cobwebs out." It's possible then, that Vernon will come away from his other projects with a renewed vigour for Bon Iver. Judging by his comments, however, that may not come for a long time.
