Journey to the 5th Echelon by the Jet Age of Tomorrow is a mouthful. Not to mention, JAOT are the electro afro-funk offshoot of L.A. hip-hop group Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All. Confused yet? We were. But despite the word play and jumble of syllables, these kids (ten members, aged 16 to 19) are creating a buzz, having produced (mostly by the groups' leader, Tyler, the Creator) and promoted three mix tapes and seven albums collectively.
JAOT are far more subdued than projects by group members like Earl Sweatshirt and Tyler, the Creator, combining jazz and funk for a sound that is comparable to N.E.R.D. or the Jaspects. The record, which dropped December 30, features OFWGKTA members, Hodgy, Mike G and Wolf Haley, and was produced by Tyler, the Creator.
Although OFWGKTA haven't yet received a lot of hype in Canada, we are confident that with big names like Mos Def and Pete Wentz attending their shows, OFWGKTA will be making big moves soon.
