It's been four long years since Jessy Lanza's last full-length record Oh No, and we've been waiting patiently for her new album. Today, we finally have a brand new track — possibly attached to the new effort — in a single titled "Lick in Heaven."
The Hamilton native delivers the new song today through Hyperdub alongside a Winston H. Case-directed music video set inside the fictional cable show Good Morning Ontario.
Here's what Lanza had to say about recording "Lick in Heaven":
I started with the 101 bass line in my studio in NYC sent it to Jer (Jeremy of Junior Boys) and he created the catchy refrain of the chorus and the Omnisphere, barbershop-type voice. This song is about being angry with people and not knowing what to do about it. I find that when I'm a certain combo of sad and angry I reach a point of provocation where I can't stop myself from going nuclear.
The song follows the release of Lanza's 2019 single "Stop & Go." So far, few details about her forthcoming LP have surfaced, although she did share the album's cover art late last year.
Alongside "Lick in Heaven," Lanza has also announced a string of European tour dates. You can see her full itinerary here.
While we wait for more updates on Lanza's new record, enjoy her new single and music video below.
