May was a month to forget for Interpol. First, the beloved indie rockers lost bassist Carlos D, who quit the group to "pursue new goals." Then, much of their stadium tour with U2 was cancelled due to Bono's back surgery. Now, it's a new month and things are starting to look up for Interpol.
According to Pitchfork, they've lined up Calos D's replacement: former Slint member/Papa M dude David Pajo. He likely isn't a permanent member, as he's bounced between bands numerous times in the past two decades, rarely staying with one project for long. Pajo's resume includes stints with Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Stereolab, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Tortoise, Zwan and many more.
As well as unveiling their new member, Interpol dropped a couple of new tidbits about their upcoming fourth album on their website. The record is self-titled, self-produced and is due out in mid-September. Since new albums come out on Tuesdays, that likely means September 14 or 21. They've previously revealed the album's first single, "Lights," which you can hear in the embedded video at the bottom of this page.
Interpol have also booked a slew of new European shows, meaning that they'll be spending the last four months of 2010 overseas. See the new dates below.
They have yet to announce any replacement dates for the cancelled U2 tour.
