The wait for Los Angeles duo In the Valley Below's first album for Arts & Crafts is over. The Belt drops on August 26, and it's available to stream ahead of time on Exclaim.ca.
The DIY-style album was written, recorded and self-produced by band members Angela Gail and Jeffrey Jacob. The pair captured a moodily synth-draped pop sound, with drum machine beats and twinkling hooks that are frequently delivered with rock muscle.
Opener "Peaches" delivers it's ultra-catchy chorus with a low-key mid-tempo groove. This proves to be fairly typical of the band: there's often a strain of darkness in their music, but The Belt contains enough dramatic refrains to keep things spicy.
