Igloofest, Jay Z, Kaytranada and More Lead This Week's Can't Miss Concerts

BY Peter SanfilippoPublished Jan 23, 2014

Winter is still here, but now the lights and decorations have been replaced with dirty piles of black snow laying by the roads and ice rinks that were once sidewalks. It's these kinds of times that having a little me-time goes a long way, and in the name of taking care of yourself, we here at Exclaim prescribe one or two live concerts to help ward off the winter blues. Check out a few of our picks for the week of January 23-29 below. Consider it a doctor's note, of sorts, and enjoy the road to recovery!

Igloofest

Montreal's chilly celebration of electronic dance music is upon us again, bringing together DJs, VJs and large structures built from that most Canadian of building materials: ice. The second weekend of the long-running four-part festival will feature artists like Pete Tong, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Misstress Barbara and many more in a series of shows along Montreal's historic Old Port.

01/23-25 Montreal, QC – Jacques-Cartier Quay

Jay Z

Beyonce's surprise self-titled album brought all the attention to the soulful singer late last year, but her husband will be taking centre stage for a series of Canadian shows this week. Brooklyn's finest will be rolling through Montreal's Bell Centre and Toronto's Air Canada Centre next week as part of his Magna Carter Holy Grail world tour. Make sure to catch him before he dips back into the States for the next few dates on the trek.

01/24 Montreal, QC – Bell Centre
01/27 Toronto, ON – Air Canada Centre

Kaytranada

Up-and-coming Montreal producer Kaytranada will be stopping by Toronto for an evening at the Hoxton on Friday (January 24). Catch him playing his new single "At All" in a perfect club setting.

01/24 Toronto, ON – The Hoxton

METZ

Catch Toronto punks METZ live when they tear up the Starlite Room in Edmonton. The three-piece will be closing the Canadian leg of their current tour the following night in Calgary, then in May they will make their way to Brazil for the Sub Pop Festival.

01/23 Winnipeg, MB – Union Sound Hall
01/24 Edmonton, AB – The Starlite Room
01/25 Calgary, AB – Republik

Perfect Pussy

Also on the loud front, Syracuse noise-punks Perfect Pussy will be playing a set at Toronto's Silver Dollar Room with Mexican Slang on Saturday night. Coming just after the band shared details of their debut album, Say Yes to Love, set to drop March 18th, they will be playing a show in Toronto before making their way back through the United States for an extensive tour before crossing the border for some shows in Western Canada.

01/25 Toronto, ON – The Silver Dollar Room
01/26 Montreal, QC – Casa Del Popolo

Pusha T

Finally, Clipse rapper Pusha T will be performing a set at The Venue in Vancouver on the 28th with Re-Up DJ Genie and Sailor Gerry, having just announced a new forthcoming record, King Push. Touring on his critically-acclaimed debut solo album My Name is My Name, Pusha will be performing a series of shows through the United States and Australia, with a few stops in Canada, including a show in Toronto next week.

01/28 Vancouver, BC – The Venue
