Hurray for the Riff Raff has announced their new album The Past Is Still Alive, arriving on February 23 via Nonesuch. They have also shared the upcoming album's first single, "Alibi."

For The Past Is Still Alive, Hurray for the Riff Raff — a.k.a. Alynda Segarra — looked to their past and upbringing for inspiration, drawing from radical poetry and railroad culture, outsider art, Eileen Myles, and the extensive history of activism groups (like ACT UP and Gran Fury, for example), according to a press release.

The album, as well as lead single "Alibi," see Segarra "grappling with time, memory, love and loss," they shared in a press release. They've teamed up with producer Brad Cook, as well as guest musicians Conor Oberst and Anjimile, among others on the forthcoming effort.

Of "Alibi," the artist shared:

"Alibi" is a plea, a last ditch effort to get through to someone you already know you're gonna lose. It's a song to myself, to my Father, almost fooling myself because I know what's done is done. But it feels good to beg. A reckoning with time and memory. The song is exhausted with loving someone so much it hurts. Addiction separates us. With memories of the Lower East Side in the early 2000s of my childhood, mixed with imagery of the endless West that calls to artists and wanderers.

Along with announcing The Past Is Still Alive and sharing the first lead single, Hurray for the Riff Raff has also announced a headline US, UK and Europe tour for 2024, with one Canadian date in Toronto next March.
