Hunx & His Punx

'Street Punk' (album stream)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jul 16, 2013

As previously reported, Hunx (a.k.a. Seth Bogart) has reteamed with his beloved Punx to deliver their new Street Punk LP. Described as featuring "the catchiest and most hateful punk songs" of their career, the song cycle is set to drop July 23 via Hardly Art, but you can hear the whole thing now ahead of time courtesy of Exclaim.ca.

Save a cover of the Beastie Boys pre-rap cut "Egg Raid on Mojo," songwriting duties were split between Bogart and collaborator Shannon Shaw (of Shannon and the Clams), and they take turns on the mic as well. Though "It's Not Easy" plays to the sweetened, sock-hoppiness of Too Young to Be in Love, the bulk of the album features trashy tunes inspired by early '80s hardcore and '90s "grrl sounds." Lyrically, the LP homes in on themes of "bad skin, teen angst, social wimpery, trash, isolation, schizophrenia, peroxided delusion, rat parties and vengeance."

You can sample bite-sized snarl sessions like "Don't Call Me Fabulous," "Bad Skin," "Everyone's a Pussy (Fuck You Dude)" and more in the player down below.

Hunx & His Punx are also taking the album out on some North American tour dates, which includes a Toronto stop on August 22. You can see the entire schedule here.
