The Hood Internet

I last wrote about the Hood Internet back in July for their Pitchfork Music Festival mash-up, and although they're constantly doin' stuff, I can't say I feel the urge to give them constant love. However, their latest mixtape is a nice reflection on the last year-plus of music: hip-hop, pop and the growing idea of what we consider indie.

Just browsing the track-listing (below), it's pretty easy to guess what this mix has in store. So, yeah, it's predictable — I don't think the Hood Internet would argue that a song listed as "Fleetwood Mac vs Daft Punk 'You Make Lovin' Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger'" is gonna sound any different than Daft Punk spitting "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" over Rumors' "You Make Loving Fun," or '80s sweetheart Stacey Q having her hit "Two of Hearts" psychedelicized by Yeasayer's trippy "Sunrise." But it's the team's precision that makes their mixes so bloody irresistible.

I mean, they "psychedelicize" '80s sweetheart Stacey Q's hit "Two of Hearts" with Yeasayer's trippy "Sunrise," throw Spank Rock's "bumps" into Burial's cascading dubstep without a glitch and then flip that around by turning Usher's "Love In This Club" into a Los Campesinos! indie anthem. Awe-inspiring.

Also, the Obama-nodding artwork is a nice touch, though it's a shame there aren't any more political nuggets tucked away in this effort.
