Here's Your First Look at Nike's New Grateful Dead Sneakers

Nike and Grateful Dead are officially joining forces for some new sneakers. The Nike SB Dunk Low Grateful Dead shoes were officially revealed this morning, with the new kicks coming with some seriously iconic Dead imagery.

The sneakers will be available in three colours — green, yellow and orange — and taking centrestage on the shoes is the band's dancing bears. As Nike explains, "The shoe playfully features bear-inspired detailing, such as a faux-fur and suede upper, a frayed Nike Swoosh mimicking the bears' collars and an image of the bear on the tongue."

Nike goes on to state importance of the man behind the Dead's bears: the audio engineer best known as Bear.

"As the band's benefactor, Bear was an incredibly huge part of the Grateful Dead's ability to become who they were," said David Lemieux, the band's archivist and legacy manager, in a statement. "They were talented musicians, but they would not have had the financial freedom to forgo jobs, move to Los Angeles and practice for 14 hours a day. The band wouldn't become what it is today without Bear's innovations and contributions. The same fiercely independent spirit from Bodecker helped create that authenticity within the skate community."

While the orange colourway has not been revealed yet, you can check out some photos of the green and yellow editions below, where you can also check out Nike's Grateful Dead bucket cap.

The orange colourway of the Nike SB Dunk Low Grateful Dead will be released on July 18 at FTC. The yellow colorway, meanwhile, will come out on July 24 on SNKRS and at select skate shops, while the green colorway releases on the same day at select shops.
