Here We Go Magic Announce Nigel Godrich-Produced Album

Keeping up with the steady release schedule that has seen them release two albums and an EP since 2009, trippy Brooklyn indie rockers Here We Go Magic have now announced album No. 3. Entitled A Different Ship, it's due out May 8 through Secretly Canadian.

The ten-track collection was produced by Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Paul McCartney, Beck), and in a press release, guitarist Michael Block offered this awesome explanation as to how the band met the studio genius at Glastonbury festival:

"We were playing horribly hungover and groggy in front of hungover and groggy people. The crowd wasn't giving us much to work with, except for these two guys standing in front. One of them was dancing around like a maniac and I was like, 'I'm just gonna play for those two guys. Then I realized, 'That's fucking Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich!'"

The producer ended up offering his services to work on Here We Go Magic's latest album, and he sought to capture the band's live sound on tape.

"The music is beautiful, but feels like it's brittle and about to crack," songwriter Luke Temple said of the results. "It's always suspended in between major and minor, happy and sad, trying to find that middle ambiguous place. A lot of the endings of these songs just kind of stop, like things are left suspended, floating in space."
