Last spring, Wu-Tang master GZA promised he would release a sequel to his classic Liquid Swords album, called Liquid Sword: The Second Edition. We had cautious optimism when he said it would arrive in the fall of 2010, but as is the case with most rap releases, it was delayed indefinitely. Now, GZA says he has shelved the project.
Taking to his Twitter account last week, the Genius declared his intent to work on a new project. "Ready to get into the lab to record this next album," he wrote, adding, "This project will have a visual and audio element. In a league of its own. Taking it up a notch before we get Liquid Swords 2 in motion... NOT Liquid Swords 2. Not yet."
While it's definitely exciting to imagine a new GZA project this year, we can't help but feel a little disappointed with his constantly shifting decisions. After all, along with the Liquid Swords sequel, we have no idea what happened to his collaborations with Fucked Up, Devendra Banhart and King Khan.
The good news in all of this is that GZA has planned some tangible tour dates in Western Canada, including stops in Victoria, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon and Winnipeg. All dates are available below.
Tour dates:
2/12 Ithaca, NY - Dan Smalls Presents
3/8 Victoria, BC - Sugar Nightclub
3/9 Vancouver, BC - Fortune Sound Club
3/11 Edmonton, AB - The Starlite Room
3/12 Calgary, AB - Dicken's Pub
3/14 Saskatoon, SK - Odeon Event Centre
3/15 Winnipeg, MB - Pyramid Cabaret
