Published Jul 30, 2014A key piece to Goblin's monstrous back catalogue is finally making its way to vinyl, with news that an expanded version of the Italian prog vets' spooky, synth-geared film score to Dario Argento's 1985 horror flick Phenomena arrives August 26 through reissue hub AMS.
A press release notes that the upcoming wax platter comprises tracks core Goblin members Fabio Pignatelli and Claudio Simonetti were commissioned to craft specifically for the film, whose plot revolves around a young girl's discovery of her own psychic powers. The soundtrack release includes full versions of seven pieces, as well as alternate takes, edits of the music as used in the film and more.
While the film also utilized previously released material by Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Andi Sex Gang and Bill Wyman, reflected on Cinevox's original soundtrack release in 1985, the upcoming LP focuses solely on the work of Pignatelli and Simonetti.
Cinevox had also previously served up few CD versions of Pignatelli and Simonetti's full score, most recently in 2012. In addition to the full soundtrack releases, a 7-inch featuring "Phenomena" and "Jennifer's Friend" had appeared at the time of the film's release.
The first 500 copies of this latest release come on clear vinyl, while the rest arrive on traditional black wax. As for the packaging, a limited amount of copies come housed in a gatefold sleeve with a poster. The liner notes feature contributions from Goblin archivist Fabio Capuzzo, while also including images and info collected from various editions of Phenomena provided by collector Roberto Attanasio.
