Proving to be a total hometown hero, electronic mash-up master Gregg Gillis (aka Girl Talk) has just received his own civic holiday. "Gregg Gillis Day," which coincidentally is today (December 7), celebrates the Pittsburgh native for his sample-heavy work and years of entertaining live shows.
The Pitt News [via Pitchfork] points to a press release that finds Coun. Bill Peduto praising the artist.
"Gregg has become an international sensation selling out performances around the world. I am honoured to recognize all of the accomplishments of one of our native sons."
A photo that Gillis posted on his Twitter seems to confirm the situation. "BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare December 7, 2010 'Gregg Gillis Day' in the City of Pittsburgh," reads the document he's holding up in the pic.
Even if you're not in Pennsylvania, you can celebrate Girl Talk via a quick spin of his latest album, All Day. We know we will.
UPDATE: Now there's a photo of Gillis with the Pittsburgh city council (see above). Man, mom must be proud!
